Cannonball Fall 2020

Join us for the most challenging Cannonball to date.  We will have all of the riding, sweating and challenge that you have come to expect, but have to curtail our post event festivities…this time.

What is Cannonball?

Cannonball’s are self-guided (with provided GPS files), self-supported (plan to pack for all of your nutrition, hydration and mechanical needs), multi-surface (gravel, chipseal, mud, creek crossings, asphalt, potholes, expect it all) adventure races that challenge even the most experienced racer.  No course markings, limited on-course support (call for pickup only if you can’t finish) and for the long course only, one bag drop station.

Rona Specific Protocols

All registration and waivers will happen online this year.  Online Registration will close October 29th at 12 Noon.  There will be no day of registration.  In the event that you or any members of your immediate household have experienced Covid like symptoms within the 14 days prior to the event or if you have an elevated temperature the day of the event, please email us at info@bikesurgoen.com for a full refund of your registration fees.

When at the event, social distance of 6’ plus and masks are your responsibility, please do your part to not make this an issue for us or any other participant.  Prior to the race start and after race completion please do not congregate in large groups and wear your mask when 6’ of social distance is not possible or when inside. We ask that you have a mask with you on the ride for the unforeseen times when you might not be in a place to keep social distance (i.e. mechanical, sag pickup, incident).  There will be no podium ceremony and to keep it super safe, awards and accolades will be sent virtually post event.

The Routes

We will have a short and long as usual, both will have some new challenges, tons of elevation, lots of gravel and even more fun.  The short route is right under 37 miles with ~3,000’ of climbing and the long route is just under 70 miles with ~5,000’ of climbing and includes an exclusive gravel secteur thru the rolling farmlands north of Chester.  The Final Course files will be emailed to all registered riders the Friday morning before the event as .TCX, .GPX and .FIT file types for your GPS devices and as a PDF with map and cuesheet.  Please be completely acquainted with the functions of your GPS unit and confirm that the route is uploaded correctly as morning of support for tech will be very minimal.

Start and Finish

Cannonball will launch at 10AM on Saturday, October 31st, 2020.  The later than normal start will give the course a chance to warm up a bit and keep everyone from having to get on the road at the crack of dawn.  With a much-abbreviated race day check-in we will open the start line area at 9:15AM sharp and, just enough time for everyone to stop by and grab your bib number.  Please plan to arrive on site in a just-in-time fashion and be ready to race so we do not have Rona crowd issues to address.   At the completion of your Cannonball please check-in with the timing station to confirm your finishing time.  We will then post final results and issue the “virtual” trophies online following the event.

Post Event

There will be no day of podium, award ceremony, or social gathering unlike past Cannonballs.  There are multiple venues in Chester to grab after ride refreshments; our hosts and sponsor The St. Nicholas Landmark has great food and will be open post ride for food and drink along with multiple other options in Chester.

Registration is now Closed!  No day of registration.
